A round quite special, begins ok then the Mojo disappeared on the 4th... a confirmation-3 today, pretty steady but a bad second shot on 8 (my 17th hole) caused a stupid bogey, but made the birdie on 18 with a great second pitching over the flag and coming back. Congrats to the Austrian promoters, a great step in the European Tour future. So I'm quite disappointed, my -2 was the second best score of this 1/4 final...
when a fly came to sit on my ball, if I stopped I could have a penalty stroke, so I played in a hurry but hooked the ball in the water... And a fly is like a spectator that makes noise, it's not your decision so referees will care because a third party has disturbed your routine... Will need to go a bit lower during the week-end because everybody get used to the format. Anyway, let's look at all the positive: my game is in good shape, my putting also...
I was not sure I could explain this to the referee... The 2 bogey at the last 2 holes are killers because even if I was struggling I came back to -6! 1 bogey less and 1 birdie more would already be a good move... When it's their turn to play they are still on their yardage book or discussing with their caddy as 1 or 2 players have already played! The Rinkven course has tints of Wentworth and it's a good preparation before playing our BMW PGA Championship.
Double cut this week: Friday 65 players and Tie and Saturday 60 players! It's been so long that I'm complaining about players not being ready to play. I can't leave the tournament before thanking everybody who built this into a success: spectators, sponsors and partners, the press, green keepers, volunteers, Rinkven staff and members, Be Golf staff and the Pieters family who set this tournament up.
On Monday I just walk the course with my putter and a few golfballs to test the greens.
It was lovely to play in that supportive and warm atmosphere here at the BKO, memories never to forget.
Everything is so dry that if the wind begins to blow hard the ball won't stay still on the greens.
Strategy is very different because of the conditions...
Tomorrow one more day of training playing at with Lee Westwood.
Well, the first coach I saw this morning was a doctor to heal my fever and throat infection... just 6 shots for a Callaway event in the late afternoon when I was feeling better... Arrived here on Sunday night with Mich and Vincent. Monday was a great day of training with a new shaft in my 3 iron (XSeven True Temper).
One of his best investment seems to have been visiting Mich Vanmeerbeek for his swing. I'm really happy that all my partners supported the BKO. A lot of interviews today to make the promotion of the BKO and golf in Belgium with some Belgium Team Pictures with the 9 Belgian participants and Emmanuel Rombouts, President RBGF.
